Art therapy and art psychotherapy can assist pupils to access what the school is offering them educationally as well as helping with their psychological, emotional, physical and social development.
School can be a challenging environment for children with varying degrees of distractions like a crisis at home, a behaviour disorder or the after effects of trauma. Art therapy can help such children to come to terms with their struggles, improve social skills and offer a powerful way of communicating without having to use words.
As an experienced former teacher, who has worked hands-on with challenging children in a classroom environment, I understand the politics and demands of the school system including the need to quantify results and show real progress with the students you entrust.
I work closesly with school staff, family members and other involved outside agencies to effectively support the needs of the children who require therapeutic intervention.

Art Therapy and art psychotherapy can be helpful in addressing individual needs and issues of access to the National Curriculum, Research shows that when children are experiencing emotional difficulties, their general functioning can be affected and they find learning very hard.
Art therapy is an intervention that can assist with a pupil's psychological, emotional, educational, physical and social development and break down the barriers that are preventing them from taking advantage of learning opportunities.
