Catherine McCartney

I am a fully qualified art psychotherapist with professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and am a member of the British Association of Art Therapists. I am also an experienced teacher (BEd Hons). As I work with children and vulnerable people, I also have enhanced DBS clearance and public liability insurance.

Over the years, I have used art therapeutically with many different people.  I found art was highly successful in boosting the self esteem of clients on Structured Day Care Program for people with substance addictions. Witnessing the power of art making on mental health I developed an interest in using art therapeutically with children.  For six years I was responsible for a therapeutic art curriculum at a special school for pupils with social and emotional difficulties and at a primary PRU where pupils were given the tool of art to use in order to express themselves and the opportunity to process inner conflicts.

In art therapy, feelings may be expressed conciously or unconsciously and I am trained to guide  clients through sessions in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

If you would like to talk to me about how art therapy may help you or your organisations, please contact me by email or by using the contact form.
